Deadline for Abstracts and Early Bird Registration Extended
The Scientific Committee for the Fifth MIM Pan-African Malaria Conference (PAMC) has extended the deadline for abstract submission from Friday, November 28 2008 to Tuesday , March 31 2009. Early bird registration ends 20 July 2009.
All authors of papers are expected to submit abstracts online at the conference website: www.mimalaria.org/pamc before the new deadline, March 31st 2009.
Late Breaker Abstracts
Deadline for submission of late-breaker abstracts: 04 September 2009
The Organizing Committee for the Fifth MIM Pan African Malaria Conference is now accepting late-breakers. Late breaker abstracts allow for the presentation of cutting-edge research and information which was not available at the time of the regular abstract submission timelines.
Instructions:
- Abstracts should be highly competitive and must reflect novel research findings that were NOT available for the March 31, 2009 deadline.
- Abstracts must be text only submitted in English or French, limited to 250 words, and only submitted once. No charts, graphs, or other figures should be included in the abstract.
- Abstracts must be structured, i.e. divided into sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Unstructured or incomplete abstracts will not be accepted
- Authors will be notified of their abstract acceptance status by 30 September 2009. It is the author’s responsibility to contact MIM Secretariat if they do not receive notification within 5 days of the deadline.
- Late-breaker abstracts should be submitted to abstracts@mimalaria.org.
Sponsorship
A limited number of sponsorships will be available for junior scientists from malaria endemic countries based on a critique of submitted abstracts and the availability of funds. Sponsorship includes a waiver of the registration fee, travel, accommodation and a modest stipend to cover meals and incidentals during the Conference. Priority will be given to scientists from malaria endemic countries who will be presenting an accepted abstract (oral or poster).All logistical arrangements for sponsored participants will be made by the Organizing Committee.
Please check the appropriate box in the online abstract submission form if you wish to apply for sponsorship. Sponsored participants will be contacted no later than 31 May 2009 concerning their sponsorship status.
Call for Abstracts
The Organizing Committee of the Fifth MIM Pan-African Malaria Conference invites abstracts for oral and poster presentations in the sub-themes listed on the Conference website.
Abstract instructions
- Abstract must be submitted through the online abstract submission system available here: www.mimalaria.org/pamc. Abstract sent by post, fax or e-mail will not be accepted
- Only abstracts of research published after 2007 will be considered. Recent unpublished studies will take precedence, all other things being equal
- A delegate can be the presenting author of one abstract only. However, a delegate may be co-author on other abstracts
- The Scientific Committee (SC) and parallel session chairpersons will decide which abstracts to accept. The SC will have the final decision about which selected abstracts are to be presented orally and which as posters
- Abstracts must be text only submitted in English or French, limited to 250 words, and only submitted once. No charts, graphs, or other figures should be included in the abstract
- Abstracts must be structured, i.e. divided into sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Unstructured or incomplete abstracts will not be accepted
- The abstract will be reproduced directly from the typescript. Corrections cannot be made once the abstract has been submitted. Please proofread carefully before submission
- Co-authors must have agreed with the content of the abstract prior to submission
- Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged electronically and will include a reference number. Keep this reference number and use it for all future contacts with the conference organizers including tracking progress of your abstract
- Authors will be notified of their abstract acceptance status by 31 May 2009. It is the author’s responsibility to contact MIM Secretariat if they do not receive notification within 5 days of the deadline.

- Registration fees are quoted in US dollars
- Participants are advised to register early to take advantage of the discounted pre-registration fee
- Cancellation policy: If you decide to cancel your registration you must notify the MIM Secretariat by email (cancellation@mimalaria.org) or by fax +255 (0) 22 2700380. For administrative reasons, refunds can only be made after the end of the Conference. Bank charges and administrative fees will be deducted from all conference registration refunds. Dates: Cancellations on or before September 01, 2009 will receive 70% of the registration fee back; Cancellations after September 01, 2009 will not be refunded.

- Please note that abstract authors must be registered for the Conference by 31 May 2009 in order for the abstract to be accepted for presentation and inclusion in the abstract book
- Registration fee is mandatory for every participant. Registration starts with selection of "registration fee category". The next step is filling information; names, position, institutional affiliation, contact information, choosing a password and uploading your abstract (in MS Word or PDF). This is followed by "Checkout", where the registrant verifies his/her details and pays registration fee (according to fee category as selected in the first place)
- The registrant must read and accept terms and conditions by ticking the checkbox 'I have read and agree to these terms and conditions'. Agreeing to terms and conditions applies whether you are paying online, by wire transfer or you are requesting a sponsorship from MIM or elsewhere
- You can pay immediately/online by credit card, or later on by wire transfer. You have to pay within the registration timelines. Transactions outside normal registration dates will be treated late and subjected to late registration fee.
